Applications for Membership

PIBC accepts applications at any time during the year, however the volunteer-based Membership Committee and Council that review & approve applications only meet five or six times each year. Therefore, submission deadlines are established to coincide with those meetings.

Application Deadlines (2012):
  • January 6, 2012
  • April 27, 2012*

Note: * The April 27, 2012 Membership Application deadline is expected to be the final intake of membership applications under the existing Institute Membership standards and processes. It is expected that applications for membership after that date will be processed under the new standards and processes being implemented as part of the Planning for the Future project (See below).

 

IMPORTANT NOTICE:  Individuals applying for Provisional membership, who do NOT have a CIP-recognized planning degree, may be asked for additional documentation for their application regarding their degree type and courses taken.  The documentation would be used by the Membership Committee to assess if the applicant's degree warrants a "related" or "unrelated" category to planning.  The degree type affects how many months of "responsible, professional planning experience" a Provisional member must log and have approved for the purposes of obtaining Full Membership.

Applications are reviewed by the Membership Committee and, where applicable, forwarded to the Council for approval. Applicants will normally receive notice of the outcome within four to six weeks of the above noted deadlines.

Please Note: All relevant materials (completed application forms, fee payments, and completed supporting documentation) for all applications must be received by the PIBC office by the noted deadlines.

CHANGES TO MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS:  As part of the Planning for the Future project PIBC, in cooperation with CIP and our affiliated professional planning associations across Canada, is in the midst of a major review and renewal of our Membership criteria, requirements and processes.

Substantial changes to the requirements for professional Membership and the process taken by membership applicants will result from this project. Currently the changes are expected to take effect as of the end of 2011 or early 2012. Anyone considering Membership should be aware of these coming changes.
